MOU between KNRC¡¤USFK for blood collection and supply

<USFK's regular blood donation and distribute blood to US MTFs>

¡à December 19th, 2019 – The Republic of Korea National Red Cross(KNRC) announced Memorandum Of Understanding(MOU) with the United States Forces Korea(USFK). The MOU outlines how USFK and KNRC will work together to increase participation in blood donation and supply red blood cell products for emergency use.

¡à This MOU was initiated to maintain USFK's stable blood products in peace time and reduce management cost while KNRC secure rare blood type products and stabilize blood inventory level by collecting blood from the forces twice a year. It is expected approximately 1,000 staff can participate in blood donation.

¡à Right now, USFK receives red blood cell products from mainland for emergency use and there is significant expiry waste. Through this MOU, however, USFK (Military Treatment Facilities) will be able to receive red blood cell products for emergency use from KNRC and can be rotated to reduce and prevent expiration.

¡à Through this MOU signed on December 19th, KNRC and USFK seek to meet stable blood inventory level, and reduce cost by preventing blood disposal.
